Dublin joins GDS-Index as first Destination from Ireland!

Dublin is set to take part in the Global Destination Sustainability-Index as the first representative from Ireland.

Highlighting why Dublin has chosen to be included on the GDS Index, Sam Johnston, Manager of Fáilte Ireland’s Dublin Convention Bureau emphasized

“Sustainability is a hot topic across the world, and one that we cannot ignore as it has an impact on the growth of business tourism in Ireland. Not only are more meeting and conference organisers looking to host their event in a destination that uses sustainability to improve the social, economic and environmental development of their area, but there are more events on sustainability that Ireland can pitch for, and win. We plan to use Dublin’s participation in the GDS-Index as an opportunity to benefit the Irish economy and make Dublin a recognised ‘sustainable’ destination of choice across the globe.”

Speaking about the benefits of the GDS-Index, Guy Bigwood, Group Sustainability Director for one of the world’s largest conference organiser organisations, MCI Group, said:

“To remain competitive in today’s socio-economic climate, leading event destinations need to highlight more than the technical capacity of their meetings industry. Increasingly, the meetings industry needs to demonstrate how their destination adds value – for delegates, our environment and society overall.”
