Because of the outstanding approach taken by the municipality that combines sustainable development and biodiversity conservation, Marseille has been chosen to host the World Conservation Congress: 10,000 delegates from 180 countries, 11-19 June 2020. Marseille is 35% natural area, which is very rare in France. Some of this is protected by the Calanques National Park, the only National park in Europe with continental, marine and peri-urban areas, tucked in between a large metropolis and a natural environment. The bidding process has helped to generate a collective will to get on with long term work on the preservation of nature.

We are committed to increasing the number of hotels with green certification and the financially support them to obtain a “green key” certification. The Aix Marseille Provence Convention Bureau has set up a unique partnership in France with the Calanques National Park and offers convention organizers the opportunity to offset their carbon footprint by collecting a sum from participants that will be donated to the Park's foundation. This amount will contribute to the preservation of the park's fauna and flora and will allow the organizer to benefit from a tax exemption.
