FIEXPO 2024 in Panama City
Collaborating with international sustainability and legacy experts, including the Global Destination Sustainability Movement (GDS-Movement) and #MEET4IMPACT, FIEXPO Latin America embarked on a journey to integrate sustainability into their core strategy. By forming a dedicated sustainability team comprised of members from FIEXPO, Panama, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Uruguay, along with partners and suppliers, FIEXPO aimed to create a positive legacy for both the destination and the meetings industry community.

Challenge:
To embed sustainability deeply into one of Latin America’s leading meetings business events, aligning the key suppliers, venue, etc, with
key and bold objectives: circularity, climate action, CO2 measurement and social impact.
Key Actions:
- Facilitated kick-off workshop and objectives alignment
- Delivered targeted supplier engagement and workshops
- Integrated sustainability & Impact into the event program
- Supported communications and on-site implementation
- Collecting, analysing data and CO2 measurement.
- Creation of the event sustainability & Impact report in partnership with#MEET4IMPACT
Impact highlights:
- 80% of graphic and production material were reused.
- 900 tons of CO2 were offset through the compensation certificate of 300 FIEXPO participants, with the support of the Government of Costa Rica and the Tourism Institute (National Forest Fund).
- 22% of the total program hours were dedicated to sustainability and/or legacy topics.
- 82% of participants acquired new knowledge about sustainability and/or legacy during FIEXPO.
- 91% of participants plan to take steps to incorporate sustainability and legacy into their future projects..
