Intermoda, a 40-year leader in Latin America's fashion industry, is advancing sustainability and legacy creation through the Sustainability and Legacy Project. In partnership with Global Destination Sustainability Movement (GDS-Movement, Meet in Guadalajara, Expo Guadalajara Oficial, Guadalajara Convention & Visitors Bureau, and #MEET4IMPACT, the initiative aims to establish Intermoda as a regional benchmark for sustainable practices in events and fashion.

Challenge:
To embed sustainability deeply into one of Latin America’s leading fashion business events, aligning the key suppliers, venue, with key
and bold objectives: circularity, climate action, CO2 measurement, menu diversity, and social impact.​

Key Actions: 

  • Facilitated kick-off workshop and objectives alignment
  • Delivered targeted supplier engagement and workshops
  • Developing the exhibitor guide for sustainability improvement
  • Designed food strategy with local and plant-forward options
  • Implementing the Sustainable Exhibitor Award
  • Integrate sustainability & Impact into the event program
  • Supported communications and on-site implementation
  • Collecting, analysing data and CO2 measurement
  • Creation of the event sustainability & Impact report in partnership with #Meet4Impact

Impact highlights: 

  • Approx 3,680 bottles of water were saved or reduced by giving 800 reusable water thermoses and installing water dispensers at the event
  • 92% of the installed carpet was recycled
  • 54.3% of the waste was reused
  • 66% of the materials in Production and Graphics were rented, reused, or made from recycled materials
  • 20% of the portions served from vegetarian menus
  • 28 conferences and sessions were translated into Mexican Sign Language
  • 650 exhibitors received the Sustainable Exhibitor Manual, which includes guidance and recommendations for achieving circularity and climate action goals
  • 72% reported learning something new about sustainability at the event
